How and Why?!
Some couples, or maybe even just half of some couples, are confused as to why ever invite a llama or alpaca to their wedding. After all, they are farm animals. We too didn’t consider this a thing until we saw our animals in action at live weddings. And what we have come to find out, is there aren’t enough sober bonding moments guests get to share that the couple doesn’t need to be a part of.
Consider this: You just walked down the aisle, happy and gleeful to have just committed your love to your favorite human in front of all your friends and family. Now guess what. They all want to celebrate with you! That’s great, but also, maybe you want a bit of time alone to soak in this special once-in-a-lifetime moment. Enter: Wedding Llamas.
We arrive discreetly in a Ford Transit van during the ceremony while all eyes are getting watery and on you. There is this perfect moment of time after the ceremony while guests are learning details of where to go to cocktail hour and transitioning, that you can sneak away with your forever llove and enjoy one-on-one llama/alpaca time together. Filled with a special moment of photos and even more joy, and yes, that is even possible. Once guests are settled into cocktail hour, you can walk your llama/alpaca guests over, or stay away from everyone for a bit longer, and give your friends and family the gift of the most fun distraction ever.
As a wedding guest, folks arrive to celebrate the couple. But 99% of the time, if they aren’t in the bridal party, they are left to support from a distance, surrounded by mostly strangers they may never see again. Introverts are scared of the dance floor, and extroverts tend to wait for even a few rounds of drinks before hitting the photo booth. But not with llamas! Llamas/alpacas are human magnets! Even when you don’t know someone, watching them kiss a llama and become filled with joy over something so uniquely Portland unites both family and friends, introverts and extroverts alike. For one full hour, relieve the bar and your guests with an experience they will be talking about for years to come. It’s hard to not have a buzz of excited energy fill the air and continue throughout the reception once you enter, announced for the first time as a married couple. We slip away, and the evening is yours to soak in.
Pricing
Pricing starts at $1,100 for two animals for 90 minutes. This does not include our animals arriving 20 minutes early to prep them, this 90 minutes is YOUR TIME with your llamas/alpacas. We find 90 minutes to be the best time frame for most couples to enjoy the animals after their ceremony and their guests to enjoy their full hour during cocktail hour.
Some couples invite the animals to greet guests at a separate reception location as a way to engage guests as they arrive post-ceremony, then steal the animals for the last 15 minutes before their reception begins. That’s a great use of the animals. For weddings with over 200 guests, and short ceremonies, we encourage the animals to be utilized pre-ceremony as guests arrive to ensure everyone gets a chance to meet their unique guests. We typically have 100-150 guests interact with our animals throughout the course of one hour, so utilizing the pre-ceremony time for a large wedding guest count allows the most amount of guests to engage without holding up dinner after cocktail hour.
We do upcharge based on the venue’s distance from the farm as well as offer reduced times/rates for intimate weddings under 80 guests.
Please Note: Weather is our #1 concern when it comes to the safety of our animals. We do not risk traveling with our animals in extreme weather, whether that be snow or sun. This means requests in the months of July and August have the highest potential for cancellations due to heat whereas December and January have the highest potential for snow. Understand booking during these months is welcomed though it should be understood that Classy Camelids may cancel with a week’s notice as the weather becomes more certain. We try our best to stay in full communication during these times, to figure out alternatives, or how to best keep our animals safe and stress-free. As these concerns are a higher risk the further off the farm we need to travel, we shorten our summer travel radius to 40 minutes from our farm at the La Center exit in Washington State.
When planning a wedding for next year: We place a priority on our participation in local fundraising events such as the the Walk, Roll, Run for Cerebral Palsy, the Buddy Walk for down syndrome, and the Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide awareness. Because of this, we do not confirm any weddings outside the current calendar year to allow our animals participation in these community-focused events. However, we are happy to add your special day and details to our calendar at any time to give first priority in the event we can come celebrate with you.
